Can several people answer the same WhatsApp business number?
Not on the WhatsApp Business app in any workable way — it is built around one phone, and linked devices mirror that phone rather than giving anyone their own account. On the WhatsApp Business Platform the number is not tied to a handset at all, so any number of agents can work it through a shared inbox, each with their own login.
Why the app does not solve it
The Business app is a phone app with a small number of linked devices. Those devices are views of the same account, not separate users.
There is no assignment, no record of who replied, and no way to remove one person’s access without disrupting everyone’s.
When someone leaves, the practical fix is changing a password everybody shares, which locks the whole team out for as long as that takes.
What the Platform changes
The number lives with Meta rather than on a handset, and software connects to it. There is no phone to be the bottleneck.
Each agent has their own login, so who replied is a fact rather than a guess.
Conversations can be assigned, which is what stops two people answering the same customer differently.
What you give up
The number stops working in the phone app, and its existing chat history does not transfer.
You need software to use it — the Platform is an API, not an app. That is a real cost to weigh if one person genuinely handles everything.
How to tell you have outgrown the app
Somebody is forwarding screenshots so a colleague can answer.
You cannot tell who promised a customer what.
Messages go unanswered when one specific person is off.
PingPlug is a shared inbox on top of the official Platform: WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger in one place, conversations assignable, and per-agent activity in analytics. Roles are Admin, Agent and Viewer — labels recorded against each person rather than enforced permissions, so everyone on the account can see and change everything.
