How it connects

Standard SMTP. You supply host, port, username and password; the password is encrypted before it is stored. Credentials are tested against the server before they are saved, so a typo fails at the point you enter it.

Recipients see your domain, not a shared sender, which is most of why deliverability differs between tools.

Presets for the common providers

Gmail, Google Workspace and Outlook are preconfigured. Anything else works from its own SMTP details.

Re-checked on a schedule

Credentials that stop working — a revoked app password, a provider rotation — are caught by a scheduled check rather than by a failed send.

What this is not

— PingPlug does not provide the mailbox. You bring the account and the sending reputation that comes with it.
— Your provider’s sending limits apply. Gmail in particular is not built for large campaigns, and hitting its limit is between you and Google.
— SPF, DKIM and DMARC are yours to configure on your domain. Nothing here can set them up for you, and without them your campaigns will land in spam whatever tool sends them.
— Gmail and Outlook accounts with 2FA need an app password rather than your normal one.

Questions

Can I use Gmail?

Yes, with an app password if the account has 2FA. Be aware of Gmail’s daily sending limits — it is a mailbox, not a bulk sender, and a large campaign will hit them.

Why send from my own SMTP instead of a shared sender?

Because the recipient sees your domain and your reputation, rather than one shared with every other customer of a tool. It also means deliverability is something you can influence.

What happens if my password is revoked?

Sends start failing. A scheduled check tests stored credentials independently, so a revoked app password is caught rather than discovered when a campaign goes nowhere.
