What is a WhatsApp broadcast?
PingPlug · Updated
A WhatsApp broadcast sends one message to many people as separate one-to-one chats. Each person receives what looks like an ordinary private message, no recipient can see who else was sent it, and every reply returns to you privately. On the consumer app a broadcast reaches only those who have your number saved in their phone; on the WhatsApp Business Platform that condition does not exist.
What the person on the other end sees
An ordinary message in your existing chat thread with them. There is no label marking it as bulk, and no list of the other people it went to.
If they reply, their reply arrives as a private message to you alone. This is the property that makes a broadcast appropriate for customers who have no relationship with one another.
Who receives it, which is where most lists quietly fail
On the consumer and Business apps, delivery depends on the recipient having added your number to their contacts. Anyone who has not is silently skipped — no error, no notice, simply nothing delivered.
The practical effect is that a list of a few hundred customers may reach a small fraction of itself, and the sender has no straightforward way to see which fraction.
The WhatsApp Business Platform removes that condition entirely. Delivery there depends on consent and on your messaging limit, not on where you sit in somebody’s address book.
The two ways to send one
Through the app, using a broadcast list you assemble on the device. Simple, free, and bounded by the saved-contact rule and the list size cap.
Through the WhatsApp Business Platform, where the message goes out as an approved template and each recipient is a genuine individual conversation with its own delivery state.
What you are permitted to send
Anyone you message must have opted in to hearing from you. WhatsApp treats an unsolicited broadcast as the thing most likely to earn a block, and enough blocks lower the quality rating your sending capacity depends on.
Outside an open service window, a business-initiated broadcast must use a template Meta has approved in advance.
PingPlug sends broadcasts over the official Cloud API, so the saved-contact rule does not apply and every recipient carries its own delivery and read state rather than disappearing into an aggregate. Audiences are built from the same tags used elsewhere in the CRM, and replies arrive in the shared inbox instead of on one person’s handset.
