What is the WhatsApp quality rating and how do I keep it green?
The quality rating is Meta's score for how recipients react to messages from your number, shown as green, yellow or red. It is driven mainly by blocks and reports. A falling rating reduces how many people you can message per day, and a red rating can restrict the number entirely.
What the colours mean
Green — normal. Nothing to do.
Yellow — recent messages drew enough negative signal that Meta is watching. This is the point where changing what you send still helps.
Red — quality is low and restrictions are being applied. Your messaging limit drops and sends start failing.
What moves it
Blocks and reports from recipients are the dominant signal. Messages nobody asked for produce both.
Frequency matters as much as content. The same message sent three times in a week generates blocks the first send would not have.
Relevance matters more than wording. A carefully worded message to the wrong list still gets reported.
What to do when it drops
Stop the campaign that preceded the drop rather than continuing and hoping.
Check who was messaged. A list built from people who never opted in is the usual cause.
Make opting out obvious and honour it immediately. A person who can leave easily blocks less.
Give it time. Ratings recover as recent history is replaced by better behaviour.
Messaging limits are separate
Your daily unique-recipient limit is a tier, raised as you send successfully to more people over time. Quality rating affects whether you move up or get pushed down, but they are two different things.
PingPlug checks your quality rating hourly and warns you when it falls from green, which is earlier than most businesses find out — usually when a campaign starts failing.
